Please follow these steps to do a hard reset if the Chromebook won’t turn on but the charging light, located on the side of the Chromebook, is lit.
Please have the charger connected to the computer.
Press and hold Esc + Refresh + Power keys at the same time, for 10 seconds – this will reboot the Chromebook.
Then, you should see a screen with an error message asking for a flash drive with the operating system. Please ignore this message. The goal is just to get the Chromebook too turn on.
Next, press and hold the Power button to turn the chromebook off.
Just wait a few seconds and press the Power button to turn the Chromebook on
You should now be able to log in and return to class.
Charger/Charging Issues
Please check to make sure that the charger is firmly connected in the middle, where both cables connect.
Try testing a different outlet of the house.
If the charging cord is plugged into a power strip, make sure the strip is turned on.
Does the charging light come on when you plug the charger in (some HP Chromebooks, specifically, have charging ports on both sides)?
– The charging light should be orange or blue depending on the Chromebook.
– For the HP Chromebooks, if the light is white, the Chromebook may be fully charged.
Is the charger physically broken (prong bent or broken, loose or broken wires, and/or protective cover broken)?
– If the tip of the charger is broken, it is quite possible that the broken end may still be inside the charging port. If so, please contact pachelpdesk@principleac.org to bring the Chromebook to the school for additional maintenance.
Please try the following steps if there are multiple sibling in the household or you have access to another similar charger. If the charging light does not turn on, then either the charger or the Chromebook could be defective
– Try plugging the charger into another device. If the charging light goes on or you see a lightning bolt in the middle of the battery icon then the charger is good.
– If the other charger works, then the charger will need to be replaced. Please contact pachelpdesk@principleac.org
– If the second charger does not work then the issue is most likely the Chromebook.
